AJAX for DIL/NetPCs

Web pages normally contain static content elements. To display the actual time or other dynamic data elements in the browser, Java applets were necessary up to now. But the development of such applets requires special tools and most of all extensive know-how. Alternatively one could use permanently the reload function of the browser to update the display - this is, however, not a user-friendly solution.

In the meantime a method is increasingly used in the context of Web 2.0, which is called AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) to create dynamic web elements. With this method it is possible to update single elements automatically without reloading the whole web page. Therefore just a little JavaScript must be embbeded into the HTML code of the web page. The current data can be made available on the web server via CGI (Common Gateway Interface). In different documents you can find AJAX demos for the DIL/NetPCs.

Record-breaking PLM for Embedded PCs

The use of a computer module causes a certain dependency on the provider. What happens if the provider discontinues the product or changes important technical details? Normally the user has to change his own hard- and software or must start a complete new development. The PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) of the DIL/NetPC family is to avoid these disadvantages.

For this reason the development of the third generation of x86-based computer modules has been started with the DNP/2486 and ADNP/2486 in the meantime. These modules will be pin- and function compatible and are available early in 2008. Therewith a product availability for Embedded PCs of over 10 years will be achieved for the first time.
