eSOM/3517
32-bit Cortex-A8 System-on-Module

The System-on-Module (SOM) eSOM/3517 is already the fourth eSOM-200 family member and is based on a Texas Instruments AM3517 32-bit ARM Cortex-A8 SoC @ 600 MHz. The AM3517 offers a sophisticated graphic subsystem with OpenGL ES API and 3D-support. It allows in interaction with the internal LCD controller to realize very performant high-end user interfaces for medium and high resolution LCDs with LVDS interface.

100% Web-HMI

As with the other eSOM-200 modules the emphasis of the eSOM/3517 is on 100% web based user interfaces, which means a single user interface for a local frontpanel LCD, PC Web browser and smartphone. For that reason the software configuration of the eSOM/3517 offers two Web servers and one Web browser for touchscreen LCDs with different resolutions. Both Web servers operate completely independent of one another. One Web server is exclusively dedicated for configuration tasks, while the other is reserved for Web based user extensions, like the visualization of external data sources for Web browser access.

Hardware & Software

The memory of the eSOM/3517 consists of 8 MBytes NOR Flash, 1 GByte NAND Flash as well as 256 MBytes DDR2 SDRAM. For memory extension a microSD card slot is provided on the modules bottom side. Moreover an LCD controller with 24-bit True Color LVDS-output, 1x DVI-D CRT interface, 1x 4-wire touchscreen interface, 1x 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, 1x IEEE 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, 3x UART, 1x CAN, 2x USB host 2.0, 1x SPI, 1x I2C and further interfaces are available.

The eSOM/3517 is delivered with a preinstalled Linux 2.6 in the NOR-Flash. X-Server, Web browser and other software modules are stored in the NAND-Flash or on a microSD card. Besides Linux it is also possible to run Android.

More Highlights

For external extensions the module offers a simple generic 16-bit bus which can be easily connected with the typical peripheral devices. The module dimensions are compact 80 x 50 mm. The 200 pins of the eSOM/3517 are distributed on two FX8C connectors. Its typical power consumption @ 600 MHz lies between 350 mA and 600 mA with a supply voltage and an I/O voltage of 3.3 VDC. Because of the low power consumption and the high graphic performance the eSOM/3517 is especially suitable for high-value Web panel user interfaces in completely sealed compact cases, e.g. with IP6x protection class for industrial or clinical environments.
